What a Fire Pit Costs on a Coronado Patio
A built-in fire pit on a Coronado patio runs $3,500 to $9,000, depending on gas versus wood-burning, paver or stone facing, and whether we have to run a gas line from the house. Wood-burning rings sit at the low end; a gas fire pit with a stone surround and seat wall runs toward the top.
We built a gas fire pit into a paver patio off 1st St two summers ago. The gas line ran forty feet from the meter, and trenching through an existing lawn to get there cost more than the fire pit itself.
That is the part most quotes leave out. The fire pit is rarely the expensive line item. Getting fuel or a clean sightline to it is.

Wood-burning is simpler and cheaper, but it also throws ash and spark on a patio that is often four feet from a fence line on a tight Coronado lot. Most of our island clients end up choosing gas once they see how close the seating sits to the property line.
Do Coronado HOAs Have Rules About Fire Pits?
Many Coronado HOAs and design review boards have setback and screening rules that apply to permanent structures like a built-in fire pit, on top of the plant palette and hedge-height rules they already enforce. We check with the board before pouring a footing, not after.
We do not guess on this. Every board reviews structures differently, and the plan that got approved on B Ave last year is not automatically the plan that gets approved on C Ave this year.
A fire pit built too close to a shared fence, or one that reads as more visible from the street than the board expected, is the kind of redo nobody wants to pay for twice.
Paver Base Requirements for a Fire Pit Patio
A fire pit sits on the same compacted base as the surrounding patio, typically four to six inches of Class II road base compacted in lifts, with edge restraint around the perimeter. Skipping the compaction step is why some fire pits settle and crack within a year or two.
