Landscaping in Ocean Beach, drawn and planted by the same hands
Ecosystem Landscaping & Design is an owner-led landscaper serving Ocean Beach from our base in Coronado. Samuel Fortes walks each yard, hand-draws the plan, plants it, and returns to prune. We are CSLB #1152146, bonded and insured, and we choose plants and irrigation for salt wind.

Ocean Beach sits close enough to the water that salt rides in on every onshore breeze. It lands on leaves, on sprinkler heads, and on the fittings nobody thinks about until they pit out.
We have spent more than a decade working Coronado and Point Loma, and the same lessons carry across the peninsula. Salt air corrodes irrigation and stresses sod. So the system gets chosen for that before the plant list does.
What we plan for on an Ocean Beach yard
Salt and wind come first. We set brass and stainless heads on Schedule 40 PVC, and we hold spray zones near 30 PSI so wind does not carry the water onto the sidewalk. Plated hardware does not last this close to the coast, and we have pulled it out of yards in under three years.
Then water. Most Ocean Beach lots are small, often around 2,500 square feet with a 25-foot frontage, so every square foot has to earn its place. Yards below the Sunset Cliffs side of Point Loma and along the streets running down toward Newport Avenue and the Ocean Beach Pier need a clear answer for where runoff leaves the lot. We work that out on foot before anything is drawn, and we set drainage and any retaining wall before a single plant goes in.
Winter storms are the test. A bed that looks fine in August can wash out in the first real February rain if the grade was never solved. On a recent small-lot job near Saratoga Avenue, we regraded a 1 to 2 percent fall away from the foundation and topped the beds with 3 inches of mulch so the first storm had nowhere to scour.
Plants that stay green without leaning on the water meter
Drought-tolerant design lets a coastal yard stay green without abusing metered water rates. We pick for the exposure we see on the lot, not for the catalog photo, and we say so when a plant will not take the wind.
If you want lawn, we install turf and build the irrigation around the salt. If you want less lawn, we plan the planting beds, paths, and hardscape together so the yard still reads as one design.
What it costs
We quote after we walk the lot, but for planning, a drip irrigation conversion on a small Ocean Beach yard usually starts around $2,500, and a full front-yard redesign with planting, paths, and new irrigation commonly lands between $12,000 and $25,000 depending on hardscape. You get a written number, not a range that drifts.
