How do you know if an Ocean Beach yard needs a rehab?
A cleanup removes overgrowth and debris. A rehab goes further: it repairs irrigation, fixes drainage, and replants what died. If plants keep failing after a cleanup, or water pools and washes soil out, your yard needs a rehab. We decide that on the walkthrough.

Ocean Beach lots are small, often 2,500 to 4,000 sq ft, and salt wind reaches nearly all of them. That shapes the decision.
What does a cleanup cover?
Clearing weeds, pruning back overgrowth, hauling debris, and getting the yard to a clean starting point. Samuel Fortes walks it first and tells us what is worth keeping. In Ocean Beach, a cleanup usually runs $1,200 to $2,800 depending on how much green waste we haul.
Often that is enough. But not always.
What points to a rehab instead?
- Irrigation that has corroded or leaks
- Bare patches where soil keeps washing out
- Plants that died after a prior cleanup
- Turf thinned by salt and wind
On a 3,000 sq ft lot near Newport Avenue, we cleaned up first and found three corroded valves and a 4-inch drain line crushed under the side path. Planting there would have been wasted money, so we rehabbed it instead.
Why does salt wind matter here?
Salt corrodes irrigation and stresses sod and plants, so a plant list that works inland can fail near the coast. I have seen brass-and-plastic fittings fail within two seasons within a few blocks of the water. We choose plants and parts with that in mind, lay 3 inches of mulch, and we do not repeat a planting that has already failed on a lot.
How should you pick a company?
Ask for the license number. Ours is CSLB License #1152146, and we are bonded and insured. Ask who walks the property and who returns to check it. Sam does both, which is why we turn down work we cannot keep up with.
Price depends on how much irrigation, drainage, and replanting the yard needs. Most Ocean Beach rehabs we quote land between $6,500 and $15,000. We quote in writing after the walkthrough and do not guess from photos.
What happens next?
See our cleanup and rehab page and the Ocean Beach page. For ongoing care after the rehab, we offer monthly maintenance.
If we rehabbed your yard in Ocean Beach, tell us on Google what we did and which street. Detailed reviews help neighbors more than stars alone.
